Who is Axie Infinity?

Axie Infinity is an NFT-based online game developed by the Vietnam-based company Sky Mavis in March 2018. They applied blockchain technology to gaming through the embedment of crypto-based transactions and NFTs. Catalyzed by a wave of gaming and blockchain (GameFi) innovation, Axie Infinity became a sensation, especially in the second half of 2021. Its rise can be attributed to both luck (the impact of the pandemic particularly in the Philippines), and design (product, gameplay, tokenomics). It has fostered an engaged community, which led to the creation of guilds and scholarships.
